THE
ESSENTIALS: Traditional
Airing of Griev-ances, Feats of Strength, Dinner, Entertainment
and much more.
Aluminum
poles are the festive objects used for decoration during
this occasion. This year we will celebrate the rapture
of the first foil pole.
Cross-dressing is encouraged. Let's see hairy legs.
WHAT
TO EXPECT: A
free-form dinner cafe with delicious mediterranean cuisine.
Great entertainment with David Gans and surprise guests!
Annual meeting of the Dessert First Club. And most importantly,
fun times with the best people in the Bay Area.
AUCTION: If you have
valuables to add to the auction please bring them. Both
your donations and purchases are tax deductible.
WHITE
ELEPHANT SALE: Donate
your new or nearly new consumer products and art to
Green Aid for the White Elephant Sale to be held in
the spring.
THE
FESTIVUS STORY: Pieces
and Tidbits
The
aluminum pole, long a symbol of Festivus, provides a
warmth and festive feeling to the Festivusities. The
simplicity of the pole, unadorned so that it isn't "distracting,"
lends a certain attitude to the occasion that cannot
be captured with mere tinsel or flashing lights.
This
is not a holiday of glitz or glamour, but a time when
we capture reality in its essence, without the overlay
and fake scenery around us. No Christmas carols here.
Just the gentle glow of the pole, whether foil or solid
metal, reflecting the soft light of cool white fluorescents
casting their beams from above.
AIRING
OF GRIEVANCES: My
main grievance about last year's meeting was that there
were not enough serious grievances. We want to hear
of betrayal, loss and danger. We long for the pathos
and passion of the aggrieved. Those who would vent and
rage, we provide you with the ear to hear your pain.
Will we be empathetic? Sympathetic? Let our applause-meter
determine the degree of your suffering. Come tell us
the truth, or at least your version of it.
I
have more to say but we're running out of space.
See
you at the party.
